Designed with a variety of surround sound set-ups in mind, the STR-DN1080 has flexibility in-built to accommodate different room sizes, speaker combinations and orientations. We’ve highlighted a few of our favourite presets below that could really elevate your surround sound set-up. 

•  In a Dolby Atmos set-up where physical rear surround speakers are absent, Phantom Surround  Back will give you the experience of a full 7 channel surround sound when back speakers are absent.  
• Sony’s innovative Flexible Speaker Solution will ‘relocate’ sound to simulate the optimal speaker position and angle, great when space restrictions or obstacles are in place.
• S Force PRO Front Surround will deliver a virtual surround acoustic field when using only 2 front speakers, giving you a more immersive listening experience without surround rears.

You can even use the supplied set-up mic to run an auto-calibration process, ensuring that the sound you get is the very best for your room’s acoustics. STR-DN1080 is also supplied with a 32-bit DAC for better overall audio quality. 

Versatile Connectivity

Like any great AV receiver, the STR-DN1080 features multiple 4K HDR and Dolby Vision capable HDMI inputs - 6 to be exact - which allow you to connect various sources for a truly versatile home cinema experience. Sony have also featured a front USB port, Coaxial input, Optical Digital and 3x analogue AV inputs to make control quick and easy from a variety of sources.

There are binding posts suitable for up to seven built-in channels of amplification, with two subwoofer inputs supported for a maximum of 7.2 surround sound channels. An eArc connection on the back of the unit will ensure Dolby Atmos content is passed through the TV into your AVR and connected speakers.

Simple, Wireless Control

Chromecast and Spotify Connect along with High-Resolution LDAC™ Bluetooth will make it even easier to select and play any chosen music. The STR-DN1080 can support high resolution formats such as WAV, AIFF, FLAC and ALAC meaning you won’t need to compromise on quality when streaming your favourite music.   

The STR-DN1080 even supports a multi-room set-up if used with other Sony products on the Sony Music Center, allowing you to group music across your system. If Wifi connectivity strength is an issue, use the ethernet port on the back of the amp for a wired connection.

Minimalistic Design

The shallow height of the STR-DN1080 makes for a slim profile that will be unimposing as part of your home cinema set-up. Featuring a black brushed metal finish and glossy front strip, the STR-DN1080 is in keeping with a minimalist aesthetic without sacrificing the necessary buttons and dials needed for control.

The STR-DN1080 is designed to work with a number of combinations of passive Hi-Fi speakers, allowing you to custom-build your perfect surround sound speaker set-up. 

Thanks to clever inbuilt features like Phantom Surround Back and S Force Pro Front Surround, you can always forego the full 5 or 7 speaker channels most commonly found in a surround sound system to build the system that will work best for your space.

The maximum number of sound channels supported are 1x centre front, 2x front surrounds, 2x mid surrounds, 2x rear surrounds and 2x subwoofers, meaning you have a lot of flexibility when building your system.
