Sony 2025 TV Lineup Buying Guide – Which Bravia TV Is Right for You?

The Sony 2025 TV lineup has officially been announced, and while there are some exciting new additions, what really stands out this year is the brand’s decision to build on what’s already working.

Rather than phasing out the 2024 range entirely, Sony is keeping many of its popular models in circulation and introducing three new TVs to broaden the lineup: the Bravia 3, Bravia 5, and Bravia 8 II. The focus this year seems to be on filling key gaps and offering more choice at different performance and price points, rather than starting from scratch.

Sony’s existing models will remain on sale for another year. That means you’ll still be able to pick up the Bravia 9, Bravia 8, Bravia 7, A90K, X85L, and W800, giving shoppers more flexibility across different sizes, tech levels, and budgets.

Here’s a full breakdown of how the lineup will shape up in 2025:

Sony BRAVIA 3 (4K LED TV)

Panel Type: LEDAvailable Sizes: 43-inch, 50-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, 75-inch, 85-inch

The Sony Bravia 3 is new to the UK for 2025, but it’s actually been out in the US and Australia since last year. So while it’s a fresh face here, it’s not brand-new tech. It replaces the Sony X75WL, stepping in as one of Sony’s most affordable 4K TVs in this year’s range.

It’s a pretty basic TV that uses a direct LED backlight system with a standard 60 Hz panel but you’ll find it in a wide choice of sizes, from 43 inches all the way up to 85 inches, making it a flexible option whether you’re after a TV for the bedroom or any other secondary spaces in the home.

For the price, it packs in some nice extras, including Triluminos Pro for punchier colours, 4K X-Reality Pro Upscaling to sharpen lower-res content, and support for both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio formats. It also runs on Google TV, so you’ll get support for all the big-name streaming apps out of the box.

When it comes to connectivity, it’s worth keeping in mind that the Bravia 3 only supports HDMI 2.0 with only one supporting eARC, so if you're planning to connect a soundbar and any other devices, just make sure they’re compatible.

Still, if you're after a budget-friendly 4K TV that covers the essentials, the Bravia 3 is a solid enough option that will be ideal as a second screen at home for casual, everyday viewing.

Sony BRAVIA 5 (4K Mini LED TV)

Panel Type: Mini LEDAvailable Sizes: 55-inch, 65-inch, 75-inch, 85-inch, 98-inch

Replacing the Sony X90L (a TV we highlighted as a bit of a hidden gem in our review), the Bravia 5 steps things up with a Mini LED backlight, which is a significant upgrade over the full array LED technology used in its predecessor.

Alongside the powerful Cognitive Processor XR, Sony is also bringing some of its more advanced picture tech to the mid-range with the inclusion of XR Backlight Master Drive, a dimming algorithm previously found only in their higher-end models.

According to Sony, this should offer more precise backlight control, with up to six times the number of dimming zones compared to the X90L, depending on screen size. If that holds true, it could be a major leap for Sony’s mid-range performance, and we are looking forward to seeing how it performs when we can test it out fully in our studio.

Gamers are well supported with HDMI 2.1 features like 4K/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM, providing smooth, responsive gameplay with the latest consoles. On the audio front, Acoustic Multi Audio and Acoustic Centre Sync (when used with a compatible Sony soundbar) aim to deliver more immersive and accurate sound positioning, especially for dialogue.

The Bravia 5 will be available in a wide range of sizes, from 55 to 98 inches, offering flexibility for all kinds of viewing spaces, from everyday living rooms to dedicated home cinema setups.

Sony BRAVIA 8 II (4K QD-OLED TV)

Panel Type: QD-OLEDAvailable Sizes: 55-inch, 65-inch

The Bravia 8 II is Sony’s headline release for the year, taking over from the award-winning Sony A95L and introducing a range of upgrades that aim to deliver flagship OLED performance at a more competitive price.

Sitting just below the ultra-premium Bravia 9 MiniLED and above the Bravia 8 OLED, Sony’s claiming the Bravia 8 II will be 25% brighter than the A95L and a whopping 50% brighter than the 2024 Bravia 8. Sony has also suggested the Bravia 8 II will be priced more competitively than the A95L was at launch, which is always nice to hear when it comes to flagship tech.

Size-wise, the Bravia 8 II will be available in 55 and 65-inch screen sizes, covering the sweet spot for most home setups. However, it’s worth noting that there’s no 77-inch version available. If you’re after a larger screen for a bigger space, Sony will continue offering the A95L in that size, making that the better pick for anyone looking for a larger screen QD-OLED model.

The Bravia 8 II debuts Sony’s new Slim One Slate design, blending the screen and bezel into one continuous surface, creating a clean, minimalist look that feels premium. It also boasts a 2-way stand design and is set to be the thinnest model in Sony’s 2025 range.

Inside, the Bravia 8 II will be powered by Sony’s Cognitive XR Processor with XR Triluminos Max and XR Contrast Booster for improved colour accuracy and vibrancy. The Bravia 8 II uses the same audio setup as the A95L, with two actuators and two subwoofers built in. It also features Sony’s Acoustic Surface Audio+ technology, which cleverly uses vibrations across the screen to make voices and sound effects feel like they are coming straight from the screen.

Which Sony Models Are Returning from 2024?

While Sony has introduced a few new names this year, several of their top 2024 models are continuing into 2025, and for good reason. These models were already strong performers, so if you are shopping for a new TV this year, here is a quick refresher on what each one has to offer.

Sony BRAVIA 9 (2024)

Panel Type: Mini LEDAvailable Sizes: 65-inch, 75-inch, 85-inch

Despite the launch of the Bravia 8 II, the Bravia 9 remains Sony’s flagship TV for 2025, proving that the brand is continuing to bet big on Mini LED in 2025.

Available in 65-inch, 75-inch, and 85-inch screen sizes, the Bravia 9 still boasts one of the most advanced Mini LED panels we've seen to date, delivering up to 4000 nits of peak brightness with 22-bit dimming control for exceptional precision.

It's got a 70W 2.2.2 Acoustic Multi-Audio+ system onboard to handle sound and the gaming specifications are consistent with the rest of the lineup with four HDMI ports. However, only two of them support the full range of HDMI 2.1 features, including 4K/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM.

It still carries a flagship price tag, no doubt, but now in its second year, we’re hopeful it will become a touch more attainable for those looking for a top-tier Mini LED TV that steers away from OLED.Looking ahead, there are already rumors of a potential Bravia 10 on the horizon, which could arrive next year and take over as Sony’s new flagship. But until then, the Bravia 9 remains the top option in the lineup and one of the best performers on the market right now, if your budget can stretch.

Sony BRAVIA 8 (2024)

Sony Bravia 8 TV on a media unit
Panel Type: OLEDAvailable Sizes: 55-inch, 65-inch, 77-inch

The Sony Bravia 8 is back for 2025, but this time it's no longer the sole OLED in the Bravia range. With the launch of the Bravia 8 II QD-OLED, the standard Bravia 8 now sits as the more accessible OLED option in Sony’s lineup.

Unlike the Sony A95L or the newer Bravia 8 II, the Bravia 8 forgoes QD-OLED technology, sticking with a more traditional WOLED panel. While not quite as high performing, its an award-winner for good reason and you’ll still enjoy the key OLED benefits like deep blacks, excellent contrast, and rich, cinematic visuals with this TV.

Sony claims it was around 10 percent brighter than the award-winning A80L it originally replaced, and it's powered by the brand’s Bravia XR Processor, which we found delivered great balance of performance during our hands-on testing.

It also includes all the essential gaming features, like 4K at 120Hz, VRR, and ALLM, although only two of its four HDMI ports support the full HDMI 2.1 spec.

We were seriously impressed when we tested the Bravia 8 in our studio. So, while it may not match the peak performance of Sony’s QD-OLED models, it still delivers stunning OLED quality at a more affordable price and now that it is in its second year, it could be an even better value pick.

Sony BRAVIA 7 (2024)

Sony Bravia 7 TV wall mounted
Panel Type: Mini LEDAvailable Sizes: 55-inch, 65-inch, 75-inch, 85-inch

The Sony Bravia 7 brought Mini LED and quantum dot tech to a more affordable price point in Sony’s range back in 2024. While it didn’t feature the advanced backlighting system of the flagship Bravia 9, it still offered solid brightness and contrast upgrades, with Sony claiming a 30% boost in peak brightness and up to eight times the dimming zones compared to the older X90L.

It’s powered by the same Cognitive Processor XR as the higher-end models and includes Acoustic Multi Audio for sound, plus all the key gaming features you’d expect, including 4K/120Hz, ALLM, and VRR on two HDMI 2.1 ports. The sleek design with a 4-way stand also makes it a flexible fit for different setups.

Sony A90K, Sony X85L & Sony W800

While not part of the latest Bravia range, the Sony A90K (2022), X85L (2023), and W800 (2021) are also continuing for another year and may be worth considering depending on your setup and budget.

The Sony A90K has been a long-standing part of Sony’s range and remains the only small-sized OLED TV they offer, available in 42 and 48 inches. Its standard WOLED panel with 4K resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate still makes it a great option for gamers and compact spaces, offering deep blacks, fast response times, and full HDMI 2.1 support in one of the two HDMI ports.

The X85L from 2023 is a solid mid-range LED model with 4K 120Hz support, making it a good pick for everyday viewing and next-gen gaming at a more accessible price point.

Finally, the W800 is a more basic HD-ready LED TV from 2021. While it lacks the latest smart features, it’s still a decent choice for kitchens, bedrooms, or anyone after a simple secondary screen.

Our Verdict

Sony’s 2025 TV range isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel but that’s actually what makes it interesting. Instead of overhauling everything, they’ve expanded their range with targeted, smart additions that serve a clear purpose and we’re excited to see how they fall into the wider TV market.

The new Bravia 3, 5, and 8 II plug important gaps without stepping on the toes of last year’s models, giving buyers more flexibility than ever. The Bravia 8 II in particular looks like a solid update to the A95L, while the Bravia 5 hits a great middle ground that we think will be appealing to a lot of people.

With competitors like LG and Samsung going bold with complete overhauls and AI-first approaches, it’ll be interesting to see how Sony’s more measured approach stacks up across the year.
