AudioQuest Digital Coax cables are designed to minimize distortion across an extremely wide bandwidth. Most visibly, “speed” is about transferring large files as quickly as possible, or carrying enough data for HD video. For Digital Coax audio “speed” is critical not because of how-much how-fast, but because time relationships within a digital stream are critical to the reconstruction of the analog waveform that brings information, music and joy to our ears.

Metal Layer Noise-Dissipation

Achieving complete shield coverage is a straightforward task. To prevent radio-frequency interference (RFI) from affecting the ground reference of the equipment, Audio Quest's Noise-Dissipation is necessary. Conventional shield systems usually absorb and discharge noise/RF energy to the component ground, modulating and distorting the critical "reference" ground plane, which in turn causes a distortion of the signal. However, with Noise-Dissipation, the shielding process goes a step further by absorbing and reflecting the majority of this energy before it reaches the layer attached to the ground.

Foil + Silver-Plated Braid Sheild 

A layer of insulation (containing electrical energy) that is wrapped around an electrical cable to prevent the cable from emitting or absorbing EMI/RFI.

Cold-Welded, Gold-Plated Terminations

The design of this plug enables a solder-free connection, eliminating a common cause of distortion. Instead of solder, a high-pressure technique is used in the process. By using stamped ground shells instead of machined ones, the metal used can be chosen for low distortion instead of machinability. 

Hard-Cell Foam Insulation

The implementation of Hard-Cell Foam (HCF) Insulation guarantees precise signal-pair geometry. When a solid material is in proximity to a conductor, it becomes an integral part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials have the tendency to absorb and store energy, which later results in the release of distortion. Hard-Cell Foam Insulation, akin to the Foamed-PE utilized in our more affordable Bridges & Falls cables, undergoes nitrogen injection to create air pockets within the material. As nitrogen, similar to air, does not absorb energy nor release it into the conductor, distortion is significantly reduced. Furthermore, the stiffness of the insulation material ensures that the cable's conductors maintain a consistent relationship along the entire length of the cable, resulting in a stable impedance and further minimizing distortion.
