AudioQuest Black Lab Subwoofer Cable

Despite their name, Black Labs have a historical origin rooted in Newfoundland during the 1700s, where they were initially referred to as "Saint John's Dogs." The Labrador breed we know today emerged from the crossbreeding of these large Newfoundland-based dogs with smaller water dogs. Labradors, whether black or of other colors, are renowned for their strong work ethic, exceptional olfactory and auditory senses, and their boundless enthusiasm for playing fetch (after all, they are retrievers!).

Metal Layer Noise-Dissipation

Achieving complete shield coverage is a straightforward task. To prevent radio-frequency interference (RFI) from affecting the ground reference of the equipment, Audio Quest's Noise-Dissipation is necessary. Conventional shield systems usually absorb and discharge noise/RF energy to the component ground, modulating and distorting the critical "reference" ground plane, which in turn causes a distortion of the signal. However, with Noise-Dissipation, the shielding process goes a step further by absorbing and reflecting the majority of this energy before it reaches the layer attached to the ground.

Symmetrical Coax Geometry 

Identical positive (+) and negative (-) conductors prevent the shield from being used as an inferior audio conductor.

Cold-Welded, Gold-Plated Terminations

The design of this plug enables a solder-free connection, eliminating a common cause of distortion. Instead of solder, a high-pressure technique is used in the process. By using stamped ground shells instead of machined ones, the metal used can be chosen for low distortion instead of machinability. 

Solid Long-GRAIN Copper (LGC) Conductors 

Solid Long-Grain Copper (LGC) conductors offer enhanced audio quality compared to cables utilizing standard OFHC (Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity) copper. The use of solid conductors eliminates strand interaction, which is a significant source of distortion. The surface quality of the conductor plays a crucial role as it acts as a precise guide for both electric fields within the conductor and magnetic fields outside it. LGC exhibits fewer oxides, minimal impurities, fewer grain boundaries, and delivers superior performance overall.

Foamed-Polyethene Insulation 

When it comes to conductors, any solid material in close proximity acts as an imperfect circuit component. Both wire insulation and circuit board materials tend to absorb and store energy, resulting in the release of distortion. However, by leveraging the properties of air and utilizing Polyethylene, a low-loss material with a favourable distortion profile, Foamed-PE insulation significantly reduces the undesired "out-of-focus" effect commonly observed in other materials due to its high air content. This makes Foamed-PE insulation highly effective in minimizing distortion.
